HIKE-N-SEEK 2015
In order to give cachers a taste of what to expect at this year's Hike-n-Seek Chasing the Stars event, we want to provide a description of the various caches we have placed. We tried to appeal to as many different individual tastes as we could think of. Here's a sampling of what to expect:
*The Constellation Series by a1bob66. 40 caches that appeal to those who enjoy quick park-n-grab style stops.
*The "Iron Man" Series by BIGBROTHERBEAR. This is a gruelling physical test of strength, endurance and strategy. You MUST find these caches in order. The coords for cache #2 are placed in the cache #1 container. The coords for #3 are in #2, etc. If you decide to chase these, bring water, food, good sturdy shoes, and prepare to get wet. The terrain is significant. Find all 30 caches in a single day and be designated an "Iron Man."
*The Heritage Trail Series by iowaPete and 24hawki. This is a family-friendly series of 40 caches located along the Heritage Trail between the towns of Farley and Dyersville. No special equipment is required for this series, but a bike would help you complete the 6-mile stretch more efficiently. Please remember that Heritage Trail is a fee-based trail. There are pay kiosks at both ends for your convenience.
*The 50 States Series by The "G" Men. There are probably challenge caches currently in existence that require a cacher to find a cache with the name of each of the 50 states in their titles. Find all of these caches and you will complete it. They are scattered across the county and vary in D/T. Most are simple, but a few are kinda tricky.
*The Killer Clowns Series by BIGBROTHERBEAR. A cluster of caches for those who have an eye for detail and enough patience to find these brutally tricky cache containers. The D-values for these are high. If you have holes in your Fizzy Grid to fill, a few of these caches may do the job.
*The Dubuque Park-n-Park series by geo-jenkins. 10 caches scattered in 10 different Dubuque city parks. A nice chance for family to enjoy chasing. Good spots to stop and relax a bit during your weekend.
*The Native American Chief series by rayven1972. Ten caches that provide a bit of history in the cache descriptions. The hides themselves are fairly straightforward. Another good choice for kids or families.
*The Star Wars series by fatfuzz. Park-n-Grab style caches themed after one of the great Sci-Fi movie epics.
*Local Stars. Do you know me? A series of puzzle caches in New Wine Park, north of Dyersville. An observant cacher will have no trouble with this cluster of caches.
*It Your Call Series by BIGBROTHERBEAR. Ten caches hidden in a variety of styles. They all have an initial D/T listing of 1.5/1.5. Cachers who are first-to-find on this series will be able to decide what the D/T value of the cache should be. After all, It's Your Call. If you think it should be a 2/4.5, the "G" Men will change the cache page to reflect the "called" choice. Be ready to hunt, though. Some of these are kinda tough.
*The Gamefish Series by rayven1972. Another educational set of cache pages with appropriately placed containers. After you find one or two of this 10-cache series, you'll get the gist of it. Family-friendly.
We also have a couple mini-series of caches - "Welcome to" : caches placed at/near welcome signs in a few communities in Dubuque county. Also, there are five "Little Library" caches placed in the city of Dubuque for you to enjoy. If you like to read, bring along a book to trade at one of the Little Library caches.
There are also a great many single caches spread across the county landscape for you to chase. Variety, challenge, surprises. It's all here for you.
